What Is Delta-9 THC?

Delta-9 is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, and it produces the euphoric sensations associated with hemp. It plays a variety of roles in the plant’s growth and development, mainly offering protection against UV.

Delta-9, also commonly referred to as just THC, interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system. Here, delta-9 acts on CB1 and CB2 receptors in this network, which results in the effects one feels after consumption. Delta-9 is known to provide psychoactive effects; however, these will generally not be experienced in hemp products due to the low concentration. Still, trace amounts of delta-9 are beneficial in a variety of ways.

Delta-9 THC vs. Delta-8 THC

Delta-9 and delta-8 are similar compounds that are found naturally in cannabis plants. They have a few features that distinguish them, and one of the most known is the effects they produce. Delta-9 is much stronger than delta-8, which provides a mild, smooth euphoria free of side effects. This difference is because their molecular structure varies from each other. While delta-9 has a double bond on the 9th carbon chain, delta-8 has a double bond on the 8th carbon chain. This translates to variance in how the body’s endocannabinoid system interacts with each of these compounds, leading to a difference in how they make users feel.

Their concentration levels in cannabis plants also distinguishes delta-9 from delta-8. While delta-9 is present in high concentrations in hemp plants, it is only found in small amounts in hemp plants, much like delta-8. In fact, delta-8 is found in such low amounts that it has to be converted from CBD or delta-9. This is done through a process known as isomerization, which is conducted in a lab. As a result, delta-8 products are usually more expensive than other cannabinoid products due to the time, cost, and effort it takes to make them. But, delta-9 from hemp is federally legal, while hemp-derived delta-8 products are permitted on a state-by-state basis.

Since the amount of delta-8 is not restricted in products like delta-9 is, legal delta-8 products are also generally more potent than legal delta-9 products. But, while delta-8 can be found in a variety of products, from vape cartridges and smokeable infused flowers to gummies and tinctures, delta-9 is only found in gummy form right now, limiting buyers’ choices.

Delta-9 THC vs. CBD

CBD and delta-9 THC have a more noticeable difference, mainly in the effects they produce. We know that delta-9 results in euphoric effects, but CBD is not a psychoactive compound at all. Instead, it is said to have benefits such as relief from stress and discomfort.

In fact, delta-9 and CBD are often combined in products, such as our Full Spectrum CBD Gummies, because together they produce what is known as “the entourage effect.” This simply translates to a more potent experience, as these compounds work together to be more effective. But, although full-spectrum products contain delta-9 THC, it is not in an amount that would result in a psychoactive experience.

Try out our watermelon-flavored Full Spectrum CBD Gummies to see the benefits of combining delta-9 THC and CBD. Each gummy has 25mg of full-spectrum CBD, offering a potent and effective dose.

Moreover, delta-9 and CBD differ in the way they are generally perceived. Since delta-9 THC is associated with negative side effects and often dependence, it has had a bad reputation, and the fact that the government used to deem it a controlled substance (and still does in some circumstances) does not help this image. On the other hand, CBD is generally thought to pose less risk and therefore is seen as a safer compound. Since it does not produce a high, there is little risk of dependence, and it is perceived as more beneficial than delta-9. However, with its recent legalization, delta-9’s image is changing for the better. It is now easier to use it in a controlled way to get its benefits without the side effects.

Similar to delta-8, there are a wealth of CBD products available in the market, like gummies, tinctures, flowers, vape carts, etc.

Is Delta-9 Safe?

Provided it is used in a controlled and responsible manner, delta-9 products generally pose no harm to those 21 years of age and older. People under this age should not use delta-9 products for safety and legality reasons. Also, those that are pregnant or breastfeeding should stay away from delta-9, along with those with pre-existing medical conditions and those on medication. In general, it is a good idea to speak with your doctor before taking any hemp-based product to ensure it does not pose any risk to your health.

After taking delta-9, it is important not to drive or operate any heavy machinery, as the effects may leave you impaired. Lastly, to ensure your safety, you should carefully follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for dosing the delta-9 product. You may experience mild, albeit uncomfortable, side effects if you take too much. However, it is important to remember that these will pass as the delta-9 leaves your system. The best way to ensure a good experience is to start with a low dose and work your way up as you learn how delta-9 affects your body.

What Are The Benefits Of Delta-9?

Many people enjoy taking delta-9 because of the euphoria it produces. However, another benefit to this compound is its accessibility. Since it is legal on the federal level, delta-9 can be bought conveniently online and in some stores. Then, it is delivered directly to your home, adding to its appeal.

Along with providing euphoria, it also contributes to the entourage effect, which is another advantage. Adding delta-9 to CBD products makes each compound more effective, and these types of products are known as “full spectrum,” meaning they contain all the compounds found in the hemp plant. Delta-9 products, like our Fruit Punch Delta-9 THC Gummies, still offer the entourage effect because they also contain cannabinoids like CBN and CBG.

Can Delta-9 Help You Sleep?

Our products are not intended to treat any medical conditions, including sleep disorders. While hemp-based products are thought to help promote healthy sleep, it is important to consult your doctor if you are having any sleep-related issues.

Will Delta-9 Keep You Focused?

Delta-9 affects people differently, but it has been said that delta-9 helps some focus due to its soothing properties. However, it may make others more sedated; so, it depends on how you individually react to delta-9.

Is Delta-9 Legal?

Although it is still considered a controlled substance when derived from cannabis, thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, delta-9 is legal if it is sourced from hemp and in an amount less than 0.3%.

Legal Status

What Is Hemp?

The hemp plant is part of the cannabis family, except it contains a high level of CBD and low amounts (less than 0.3%) of delta-9 THC.

Federal Law

Due to the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp products containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC are legal on the federal level. This has led to the emergence of delta-8, CBD, and, of course, delta-9 products, among others, in the market.

State Law

Hemp products containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC are legal in all 50 states. However, some states have placed regulations on or have banned delta-8 THC altogether. That is why it is important to check your local laws before buying any hemp-based product to ensure you are operating legally.

Delta-9 FAQs

Does Delta-9 Get You High?

Delta-9 is a psychoactive compound, so it does produce euphoric sensations when used in larger amounts. However, legal delta-9 is derived from hemp and is only present in low quantities. So, using legal, or hemp-derived, delta-9 products may not result in a strong euphoria. Instead, you may get more mild, relaxing effects. To know in detail, read here.

How Long Does It Take For Delta-9 To Kick In?

Since delta-9 is new to the hemp market due to the recent change in legality, it is mostly only available in edible form, mainly gummies. As such, delta-9 edibles have to pass through the digestive system before the effects are felt, meaning they take about an hour or two to kick in. Since they are consumed, factors like when you ate last, your bodyweight, your metabolism, etc., determine how long it takes to feel the effects.

If delta-9 manufacturers expand to offer different products, such as flowers and vape carts, the time it will take the delta-9 to kick in will be different. Products that are inhaled are felt much quicker due to the fact they are directly absorbed by the lungs. As a result, the effects are near-immediate.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Delta-9?

Side effects usually only occur if you take an excess of delta-9, which is difficult to do with hemp-derived delta-9. Still, taking too much delta-9 could result in side effects such as an increased heart rate and anxiety. But, remember that the effects vary by individual. If you do experience any side effects, do not take any more delta-9 and consult your doctor.

Is Delta-9 Legal in My State?

Delta-9 is legal in all 50 states, provided it is derived from hemp and is present in an amount of less than 0.3% by dry weight.

Can You Buy Delta-9 Online?

You can buy delta-9 online, and at BudPop, you can get our Fruit Punch Delta-9 THC Gummies delivered right to your door. Along with 15mg of delta-9, each gummy also has 2mg of CBC, CBG, and CBN, providing the entourage effect. Our Delta-9 Gummies are also vegan-friendly and delicious, as they come in Blueberry, Kiwi, Mango, Strawberry, and Watermelon flavors.

Can I Test Positive For THC After Consuming Delta-9?

Taking any type of delta-9, legal or otherwise, will likely result in a positive drug test. As a result, it is best to avoid delta-9 products before your drug test. Although hemp-derived delta-9 is legal, it still breaks down into the same THC metabolites that drug tests look for, resulting in a failed test. Even if you take full-spectrum CBD products, which contain a small amount of delta-9 THC, you still run the risk of testing positive. As a result, it is best to avoid any hemp products in the weeks leading up to your drug test.

How Do You Use Delta-9 Products?

Since delta-9 products only come in gummy form, they are simple to use. You just chew the recommended number of gummies (the label will tell you how many), and wait for the effects to hit.

How Do You Dose Delta-9?

Since delta-9 gummies come in pre-measured amounts, they are easy to dose. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation on how many gummies to consume at once. If you are a beginner, it is a good idea to start lower by cutting the gummy in half. Once you see how a smaller dose affects you, you can increase it as your tolerance grows.
